I often received questions from the readers by email. I got permission from the readers to share their questions, comments, and answers.
My husband and I completed reading your book. Your writing is exquisite. Thank you for sharing your poignant story with the world. I often read before bedtime. Your book was among my reading for the new year. For a few nights, I was crying reading your book. My husband had to take the book away from me. He did not want to see me crying. My husband read your book while I was not reading, and he also cried... We both thought about the details you described in Chapter 25: The Butterflies. My eyes got wet again thinking about the paragraph describing where your Father met Lan Phuong again, at Linh Son Temple. Can you expand on that?
Thank you for your kind words. I first heard about the butterflies from my oldest sister back in 1991. I wanted to hear more about the two butterflies from my mother. However, my mother was sad and avoided the subject. I saw a deep sorrow reflected in her eyes. Then, in 2010, while I visited my mother in the hospital, she told me more about the two butterflies.
